Assessment plays an important role in supporting your child’s learning and progress.

When children first start school, they are assessed against baseline standards. This information is shared with parents and carers and helps us plan teaching that meets each child’s needs.

As children move through school, we use a range of ongoing assessments to monitor their progress. These include both informal (formative) assessments during lessons and more formal (summative) assessments, some of which take the form of tests.

There are also several national assessments that children complete at different stages:

    • A Phonics Screening Check at the end of Year 1, with a re-sit in Year 2 for those who do not meet the expected standard
    • A Multiplication Tables Check in Year 4
    • SATs (Statutory Assessment Tests) in Year 6

From 2024, SATs are no longer compulsory for children in Year 2. However, we may still use available materials to support our teacher assessments and ensure accurate understanding of each child’s progress.
